Agreement 

Between the School of Liberal Arts, 

Renmin University of China 

And School of Critical Studies, University of Glasgow

 

 

To enhance the education of their respective students and collaborate more closely in teach and research, School of Critical Studies, University of Glasgow and the School of Liberal Arts, Renmin University of China agree to establish the following reciprocal exchange programme, on the basis of equality and reciprocity:

 

Part 1: PhD student Exchange Mobility

1. A joint PhD programme, and the regular exchange of PhD students is established between two institutions.

2. During each year of the term of this Agreement, each institution may send 1 student to be enrolled at the other institution for an entire academic year or half an entire academic year. The number of students to be exchanged may be modified from time to time by mutual Agreement. 

3. Participating students under the terms of this Agreement shall be enrolled at the host institution for a period not exceeding twelve months with course credits to be transferred back to the home institution. 

4. Students must have completed at least one and a half years of the studies at the home institution prior to participation in the exchange and have suitable levels of language ability for the study of certain courses at the host institution. 

5. Participants will be selected by their home institution. The home institution reserves the right to reject candidates if the candidate does not meet the requirements for visiting student status at the host institution.

6. Students participating will be responsible for arranging the necessary visa and for covering the cost of accommodation, travel, equipments, consumables, health insurance and other incidental expenses arising out of the exchange. No exchange of funds between the two institutions will occur. 

7. Students participating shall be subject to the rules and regulations of the host institution. 

8. Each institution shall make every reasonable effort to assist students participating, such as applying for the scholarship and finding the suitable accommodations. 

 

Part 2: Teaching Staff Mobility

Teaching staff mobility may include the following:

1. Exchanges and visits of staff;

2. The development of joint research;

3. The development of regular publications of research findings;

4. Mutual projects such as the research seminar alternately in Glasgow and Beijing, with the support of both universities;

5. In Glasgow, an application for an RSE grants to enable Renmin faculty to visit Glasgow on an initial research visit;

6. In accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations, and subject to personnel and administrative limitations, the host institution will endeavor to assist visiting participants in arranging for necessary permits, finding suitable accommodation, and providing necessary facilities; 

 

Either institution may review this Agreement and the actions taken under it at any time and make any necessary modifications to it by mutual Agreement. Any changes will be subject to the further approval of each University’s relevant authorities.

 

This Agreement shall enter into force upon signature by representatives of both institutions for 5 years. Either institution may terminate this Agreement as of the end of any academic year by giving written notice at least six months. This Agreement may be extended by consent of both institutions for a further specified period subject to the further approval of each University’s relevant authorities.
